My son and I love this show!! What a great way to teach children about other cultures. I can't beleive anyone would forbid a child to watch this unless you are just TV free. I don't see how people think Manny is dumb. Or even Mr. Lopart. He is a bit of a klutz. Why is the saying white people are 'dumb?' Kelly is not dumb. She has everything!! What kind of message are you saying to your kids? Don't watch this because it has different kinds of people? Yes, this is the USA, Land of the Diverse!!

I know many people have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of Handy Manny items. I just got done watching the previews on my daughter's new Little Einsteins video and there is a Handy Manny video due out in August. If it is at all like the Little Einsteins video, which I assume it will be, there will be three episodes on the DVD. I know it isn't as much as us Handy Manny fans would like but it is a start.

Ignorant!! (Review 87 of 214)
Reviewed by Shannon on 2/24/2007 Rating: (3343)
This is a great show!! My son loves it! To think that someone who is a "parent" is so ignorant that you would actually disapprove of this show. What is your issue? This is a huge world! We need to show our children that and teach them diversity and understanding. There is nothing wrong with being educated on another race, religion, history, etc. Just because something is different or foreign to a person doesn't mean it is negative, wrong, or immoral. This show is teaching English speaking children some Spanish words, and cultural differences. Soon most people in the world will be speaking two or three languages. The individuals that refuse to acknowledge this and adapt will be left behind. If you want to teach your child that there is anything negative about cultural difference then perhaps you are the one who should not be allowed to "play with others". The only thing wrong with this show is that is brings to light the narrow minded thinking of a very very small percentage of people. Disney has been a positive influence on children for years and will continue to do so with shows like Handy Manny. This character helps his neighbors and friends without asking for anything in return. Thats what needs to be taught today. Too many children are taught to only look out for themselves. And yet society can't seem to figure out why so many children and issues with crime, poor education, drugs, etc. If we don't show our children the positive things then they have no other option but negative influences. Parents that want the best for their children will support shows like this, show that focus on positive actions and ignore the stupidity of people like you.

Reviewed by Kristen on 2/23/2007 Rating: (3322)
My daughter loves watching Handy manny and I love the lessons that it teaches, such as sharing and working together. I really enjoy the fact that there is Spanish thrown into the program and that it is always clarified before or after a saying exactly what the Spanish meant. I am shocked that parents can react to this program negatively and even more surprised that they would imply that it is prejudiced. Ridiculous. Clearly these parents are just looking for problems. I was a teacher as well in an elementary school and served as an instructional specialist for 2 elementary schools and the BEST time for children to learn another language is during the toddler years. And the way this program teaches it is exactly correct; there is no reason for language to be taught in a school. Handy Manny is a great show that children respond very well to and it sounds like the adults who have a problem with it need to find something to occupy themselves with because they are making issues out of nonexistent things.

Incredible (Review 93 of 214)
Reviewed by Joan on 2/16/2007 Rating: (3297)
Its hard to believe that there are still such closed minded people out there. This show is not shoving Spanish down your throat, it is simply exposing children to a few Spanish words and numbers, why wouldn't you want your child to learn as much as possible? Why would any parent limit their child's potential, I don't understand. However, if this is how you feel then you shouldn't watch the show because its not meant for you. Its meant for smart children and their smart parents who want them to learn as much as possible. I'm curious, do you have the same problem with Dora or Diego? How about little Einsteins, they teach some Italian words...are you closed minded enough to prevent your child from watching those shows? Regardless, Handy Manny is a great show...it has great lessons for children to learn and is very entertaining for my son.

Okay, Handy Manny isn't a show for us just yet, Morgan is 2 and still has no interest. So far though, I thought it was a cute little show and I know other kids in the 3-5 year old range that are enjoying it very much. Honestly it's a refreshing change from Bob the Builder and the political messages which have become so frequent on PBS. Guess I didn't notice anything about the ethnicity that people have commented about here. I will say that my little one has noticed different colors of skin for quite a long time, although it's just a comment she makes just like when someone has a red shirt one. Overall I'd have to say that this is a great show Disney has created and I'm pleased to see something like this geared toward boys as well!
If any of you want to discuss the show further, please join us in the message board where you can discuss your thoughts in a friendly way. It's a great site. And please, this site is wonderful with very friendly people, even if you don't like a Disney product, don't aim your anger at this site.

Turn the Channel (Review 95 of 214)
Reviewed by Boomer on 2/12/2007 Rating: (3278)
If you are so offended by Handy Manny, Teletubbies or any other program, turn the channel. If you think that this is the USA and you should speak English, you are closed minded. I do not care if my son learns spanish, but the exposure to different cultures and languages helps teach tolerance of a world that is getting smaller everyday. Some of my distance relatives came to this country and spoke German. If they were greeted with the same ignorance I have read here, then the "great" USA would not be what it is today. I agree that the show is not written well- do you know why...it is for kids. We are not watching Law & Order. It is meant to be entertaining and if it teaches my son that people who are different can be treated as part of the community and things get done when he works together with others, than great! I look at the tools as the 7 dwarfs, each has a narrow personality that might resemble certain kid traits (i.e. not wanting to try something new, feeling like they need to be in control, or whatever). Manny does a great job mentoring the tools into working together and thinking things through before jumping in with a solution. Manny is patient, caring and thoughtful. I wish he lived in my commmunity because he would be a wonderful role model for all the tweeners who have "role models" such as 50 Cent, Brittney Spears, Paris Hilton and the pro sports player who is taking steroids/beating his girlfrient/smoking pot and can dunk/run fast/hit a home run.
All in all, you are the role model for your children. Do not let the TV teach your kids. Talk to them about the show. If there was something you did not like have a conversation with them. Respect your child and they will learn respect for themselves, you and others (no matter if the are a handyman, lawyer, doctor, teacher, speak chinese, are a religious leader). If tv can reinforce things like teamwork, sharing, diversity or laughing at a silly cartoon, then great.

WOW, Handy manny is a well round show for children, after reading all these reviews I was shocked how parents are truly raciest. If you really watch the show, you can see plain as day see that Many helps people in his town period, and promotes kindness and teamwork. All you parents that feel Hispanic driven shows should not be on television you are the raciest. The Mr. Lopart character is portrayed as a person who does not head the way of caution when doing something. That show children the affect of not be caution when engaging in actives. Made it would sit better in the mind of a raciest if the Lopart character was an immigrant, or a nativity America. You children that are over 20 needs to grow up. If you sit in front of your TV you can find any thing to complain about period. and I don’t like Johnny and the sprites, but my son does, so I’m going to think my son is going to be a homosexual, watching a the Johnny girly man charter sing show tunes, NO I love me son period, and if he likes the show he can watch it. Handy Manny is a Cartoon period and it brings a good message of friend ship, teamwork, and all around kindness to your fellow man. GROW UP PEOPLE, IT’S JUST A CARTOON. Now I know why there are no Videos in the store for Handy Manny, My son love that show and I do too.
Watch out everyone I heard Christianity was sexist, so burn all your money because it says on the back of every bill in god we trust.
And I love Carlos Mencia
And if you do like hand manny you’re a Dee da Dee

I don't get it (Review 97 of 214)
Reviewed by Another Mom on 2/10/2007 Rating: (3258)
I have to say, I don't get why people are blaming Manny for the hatred of the parents. People who say "This is the United States, speak English" are basically saying English is superior to any other language. Why? Do they realize that the United States was formed, based, and fought for by immigrants and foreigners. Parents are making racist comments regarding the characters on the show and the children are merely repeating what they've heard. It's not that the show is teaching it, the parents are influencing their children. I say to the teacher that have sent home note to their student's parents, shame on you. Who are you to dictate to the parents what their child can and can't watch. Are you then telling the parents they are not responsible enough to determine for themselves what their children should be watching? I think the show is fine. The show contains an eclectic group of people (much like the world we live in) that come together to form a great community. As for Mr. Lopart. I don't see him as being portrayed as dumb, I view his behavior as stubborness. He is an intelligent man, he merely believe he can do things on his own. We often feel as he does and things most likely end up as they do for Mr. Lopart. Would you be happier if he allowed Manny to help him? I believe we can teach our children that it is okay to get help from others and use Mr. Lopart as an example, without saying Mr. Lopart is dumb, stupid, klutzy, or any other negative comment. If you truly watch the show in the way that is intended, you will see that each and every show has a good message. I think, as adults, we often read into children's shows more than we should and WE are the ones that teach our children the negativity of the world. I invite you to observe the show from a child's point of view and discover something fun and positive.
