Awful (Review 101 of 214)

Bravo to the people brave enough to say this show stinks. Anyone with an IQ over 60 would not allow a child to watch this. You are right, THIS IS AMERICA! Speak English. IF and that is a BIG IF, I wanted my kids to speak Spanish I would enroll them in a class. I don't want it shoved down my throat. Why not have a character speak Greek, or French, or Italian. Oh that's right, THIS IS AMERICA, SPEAK ENGLISH or go back to Mexico.

I agree. I can't stand this show. I would NEVER allow my child to watch it again. After watching only a few episodes, my daughter Raechi asked me why Manny hates white people. I didn't know how to answer her. I asked her teacher and was told that I was not alone. Many parents are bringing up this issue. She said it is a bad influence on children. It is reverse racism and I will not allow my child to be corrupted by this bigotted cartoon.

I have to agree with the two teachers. This show is not as good as it could be. Think about it, everyone here is so quick to say these shows are responsible for teaching their children good things, why can't you see that your children could learn bad things at the same time. Every show has the potential to influence children, good or bad. Yes, kids may learn good things from this show, but they will also learn bad things. It has to be a two way street. I believe that this show teaches children to notice the differences, rather than teaching them that we are all the same inside, no matter our heritage. I think it could have been great. My children are not permitted to have the TV on unless I am with them. I gave this show a chance, but I no longer allow them to watch it.

Wonderful Show (Review 104 of 214)

I love Handy Manny! I have a 16 month old son who loves to watch Handy Manny, it is the only show that captures his attention, no matter what. We sit and watch it together in the mornings. I am a bilingual parent, and enjoy the fact that he is being exposed to Spanish words during the show the same way he is at home. I want to raise my son to be bilingual since it will be very beneficial for him in the future, especially living in Orlando. I don't agree with some of the reviews, but this is a free country and everyone is entitled to their opinions...I do have a problem with a teacher sending home a letter telling parents not to let them watch a certain show. I think you should explain your concerns and leave that decision up to the parents, I don't agree with the fact that you are imposing your opinion on parents and using your influence as a teacher improperly. I think Handy Manny is a great show and I hope Disney will come out with cool birthday party ware for my son's 2nd birthday in September!

I have a son who is 8 months and a daughter who is 2 1/2. Both of my children stop in there tracks when they hear the Handy Manny sound track come on. There are not very many things that can stop infants in there tracks. Handy Manny is kind and has very good manors. For those who are thinking negative about this show you are looking way to into it and to those who are putting down our handy men, how dare you. I would hate to see the way your children behave being raised to think they are better than someone. Have you not heard that all are equal in America.Your looking for a something to complain about. I to am looking forward to throwing my son his 1 year old birthday party with Handy Manny, hope it will be here by May.

I agree with Not A Fan. I, too, am a teacher. I feel it sends a very bad message. Language should be taught in a classroom, by a trained professional. This show does not accurately teach anything. I have a large group of students from culturally diverse backgrounds, I think this show encourages children to point out differences in each other. There are three students I know watch this show. I have trouble with all three being cruel to each other children. An English speaking child ridiculed a Spanish speaking child, telling him to speak English or shut up. When I asked him why, he said that is what his Mommy tells Manny. An obvious discrimination, taught by a parent. I had a child born in Mexico tell a child born in Illinois he was a loser, a klutz, and a retard. I asked where he learned this. He said watch Manny, all white people are stupid, just like Mr. Lopart. I watched an episode and learned that Mr. Lopart, a white character, is portrayed in a negative way. I had another student ask a little girl if her father, who is a repair man, is as stupid as Manny. This show needs to be reworked, or removed. It is teaching stereotypes. It is really harming the children. To all you parents, who say your children watch this, I wonder if you realize the message it sends. I have sent a note to all the parents in my class, requesting it not be shown to the children. In the last few weeks, since the children have stopped watching, the atmosphere in my class is once again becoming positive. This show could have been a great tool to teach children to get along with each other, regardless of their backgrounds, instead it teaches hatred. Shame on Disney.

My 9 month old son really loves the music. Anytime he is fussing and Handy Manny comes on he immediately stops to listen and watch the tools dance. It is a great show that will maybe give my son a little head start on learning a second language. We would really like to have a Handy Manny 1st Birthday party. Do you think you will have party sets available by mid-April??

My daughter has a father from Mexico so I do know the importance of language. Ask any doctor or scholar and they will say that a young age is the best time to learn two languages. I want Englsih to be my daughter's main language but I want her to know basics of Spanish so she can speak to her grandparents and such. I do know how hard and my daughter's father watches the show with her and it helps him as an immigrant to learn English. If you want to ban this show that is your choice I just feel bad that you are missing out on a great educational show.

I am the parent of a 2 and 3 year old. We are all excited when we hear the catchy Handy Manny theme song in the morning. I love how respectfully and graciously everyone in Manny's neighborhood treats one another. These are the qualities I want my children to see modeled by others. And the program teaches lessons I want them to learn. Thank you, Disney for this program! Please make more like this.

In reply to Lynette, I am not ignorant. I am an imigrant from Mexico. I have a masters in education. My sister died in Mexico and I adopted her children and brought them here to live with me. They are struggling to learn English. We do not like the language, because I feel it is important for the children to learn to speak English. They get confused and I feel it has added to their problems. That is why it is now a forbidden show in our home. Do not pass judgment about someone else. You have no idea of the struggles in our home.

My daughter loves Handy Manny. I find myself sitting and watching it too. We love the bilingual language used throughout the show. I own a child care center and we teach Spanish in our 2 year old room and our preschool room. The children learn it so fast...it is amazing. My 2 year old was counting the other day...the first 5 numbers were in Spanish and then she finished up to 13 in English. I can't wait until they start releasing DVD's so I can have some for my center.

I think this show is great. It is cute and tries to introduce children to a variety of different cultures. Parents who complain about the switching of languages are ignorant. Children learn new languages easier at an early age and this show introduces children to a new language without overdoing it. I can't wait till Disney releases merchandise so I can snatch it up.

I absolutely love the show!!! I look forward to watching it with my 11 month old son. We dance to the songs and I always sing to him when the tools are singing. I think its wonderful that Disney introduces a second language for children in a fun way. I especially love that they will say a word in Spanish then repeat the same word in English. Its nice that a cartoon can be fun for the kids and also be educational. I'm a mom again after 20 years and love the show. Even my husband watches it and tells me that the way they make repairs is accurate and he loves the theme that old items shouldn't just be thrown away when they don't work. I especially loved the Holiday episode where they introduced different religions. I applaud Disney!!! Best show on TV. I need Handy Manny party favors!
