Electric Umbrella Review, December 2009

The Electric Umbrella is located  at Epcot in Innoventions Plaza.  It is open for Lunch and Dinner and if you are on the Dining Plan there are also snacks available.  The inside of the restaurant is very large, and there are also tables outside for nice days.

As a quick service restaurant the Electric Umbrella serves the standard theme park items such as burgers, chicken, vegetarian, various sandwiches, salads, and desserts.  Soft Drinks, tea, coffee and milk are available for drinks.  Dining here is a great choice for picky eaters as well because of the many options.

This is a very colorful restaurant after dark with bright neon lighting.  During the daytime the colors are muted.  The food is good and the atmosphere pretty relaxing for a crowded restaurant.

Our family, consists of me, my husband who will not eat poultry or seafood, and our seven-year-old son who won't eat red meat, fish, and most poultry.  In fact, he will only eat pizza (cheese), macaroni and cheese, and chicken nuggets from McDonald's or Chick- Fil-A.  I am not a picky eater and will eat all of the above.  My least favorite is red meat so during a week of vacation I usually try several different items.  Today was no different. We enjoyed this restaurant while at Epcot in December 2009.

Some of the items on the menu may seem rather odd, such as a turkey sandwich with chipotle mayo and cranberries.  To me this seemed an interesting pairing, and not being a fan of cranberries at Thanksgiving I figured I would be removing them from the sandwich.  I was really wanting a sandwich so I decided to give this one a try.  Before removing anything from the sandwich I took the first bite and was really surprised.  This mixture of ingredients was absolutely fantastic!  The sweetness of the cranberry and the spicy chipotle reacted together in a wonderful way to make this sandwich absolutely wonderful.

Andy had the bacon cheese burger and it was just like every other burger he had over the week.  OK.  Not great, not bad, but okay.  Alex had the chicken nuggets and even ate a few of them.

Since we were on the counter service dining plan every meal other than breakfast included a dessert.  For each meal we split two desserts since there were usually two that sounded good.  We used the third dessert to get an ice cold bottle of water.

I definitely recommend the Electric Umbrella to anyone with picky eaters, or to those who don't just want another fast food burger.
