Breakfast with Bear

04/25/06 - It looks like Breakfast with Bear might be gone. In late April 2006 older Bear In The Big Blue house episodes began airing. The Disney Channel touted them as new episodes but the dates on them were in 2001 & 2002. Our guess is that with the new Mickey Mouse Clubhouse this change will be permanent.

Breakfast with Bear, now showing Monday through Friday on the Disney Channel replaces the old standard Bear in the Big Blue House.

In each 60-minute episode of Breakfast with Bear, you will meet the family of a preschooler whom Bear joins for breakfast before the child goes off to school. Bear will usually sing a song about getting ready to go to school, getting dressed, or something similar. Bear will do his best to teach each child about healthy living in about 15 minutes.

As you might guess, you will never see Bear eat, but it is a fun new way to watch Bear. In addition to the segments with the family, you will also see a few of the Disney Channel's shorter shows, such as Charlie and Lola or This is Daniel Cook, or the shorter shows Captain Carlos, Go Baby or the Shanna Show, and even to the delight of many fans, a full episode of the another Playhouse Disney show is included in the last 30 minutes of each Breakfast with Bear episode. Since the other shows are about 20 minutes and both Charlie and Lola and This is Daniel Cook run about 11 minutes each, Captain Carlos, Go Baby and the Shanna Show are about 5 minutes each, so you can usually figure that you will see Bear for about 20 minutes during Breakfast with Bear with the Wiggles, one of the 15 minute short stories, and a 5 minute show thrown in the mix somewhere.

What you won't find in Breakfast with Bear are Ojo, Pip and Pop or Treelo. This show has Bear all by himself, dancing and singing with a child. For those of you that can't get enough of Bear in the Big Blue House, you can still find that show on the Disney Channel over the weekends. On Saturday and Sunday you can sing and dance with Bear, Ojo and the whole gang.

The target age group for Breakfast with Bear is the preschool age group from 3 to 6. Instead of the peppy theme song Welcome to the Blue House, we now have the even peppier Hey, It's A Brand New Day. Bear in infectious in his cheerfulness, and while the whole hour of this show is not spent with Bear, you do see enough of him to put a smile on your face.

The show doesn't have the sort of thing I call, "A Good Remake".
The two golden stars are for great songs as the original, and
has the main character from the original. What's next? Bear
going to school?? (Actually, GOOD CHOICE!! Heh heh.) Anyways,
the saying "A Good Remake" means that it should have more
entertainment, and more human Pre-schoolers of the show as it
needs. The other characters are not in the show, just Bear and a
human preschooler. Bear in the Big Blue House is "A Good
Remake", even though it actually is "A Good Original".

If Disney is saying that Breakfast with Bear is a whole new and
fun way to watch Bear, well no it's not!!!
Bear in the Big Blue House is more fun than Breakfast with
Bear.

Breakfast With Bear really pales in comparison with Bear in the
Big Blue House. But, I do like Breakfast With Bear a little bit.

i used to love this when i was little. after reading all of these comments, i decided to
check netflix for the heck of it to see if you can rent any dvds of bear there. You can!
unfortunately, there are no "instant-watches" but there are dvds that you can add to
your queue. So, I just wanted to say that to mothers who have kids who miss the show.
I hope I helped!

Rachel's Experience on Breakfast With Bear  (Review 12 of 48)
Reviewed by Rachel's Dad on 5/21/2009 Rating: (4455)

My daughter was Rachel of San Marino - the one who played
basketball with Bear. It's been several years, but that was
really a fun experience for my daughter and for us as parents.
We responded to an email from a friend who worked at Disney
which asked for a picture of Rachel and our house. I didn't
think much of it but I did respond and was surprised to get a
call to go to the studios in Burbank where about 30 kids all
met Bear. Bear was great, and to our surprise, we got another
call that our daughter was selected for one of the segments.

They came out and filmed the segment in one day. The crew and
everyone was very nice. Rachel really did have a fun time with
Bear. It is something I will always cherish as a parent.
