A Disney Family (03/19/07)

Since I have taken the time to share with you my love of Disney merchandise, and specifically of collecting said merchandise, I thought that now would be a good time to share a different facet of my Disney love.

My husband and I were very lucky to have a wonderful little boy who has loved Disney since birth. As a baby, he was given an overwhelming amount of Disney Plush to play with and get to know. As our darling child grew, so did his love of these familiar Disney characters. Finally, when he was just over a year old, it was time to make the big 'first' trip to Disneyland with our son.

Alex was not scared of the characters. In fact, his first look at Minnie Mouse had his squealing with delight. He was thrilled to see her standing tall, his friend from home that he has known since birth. Sharing Disneyland with the ones I love so much was such an incredible experience that first time. Seeing the wonder in his eyes through the tears in my own is a priceless experience.

Our wonderful son is now four and half years old, and is truly a Disney child. Now a Disneyland veteran, no family vacation would be complete without a stop at Disneyland, and frankly there is no place we would rather go as a family.

My son's love of Disney is the reason for this particular A Little Dose of Disney article. His favorite ride at Disneyland is 'it's a small world', and that love of Small World has totally infiltrated his life. He has a home made Small World screen saver on his computer. He has a poster board full of Small World pictures. Alex wakes up most morning singing "It's a Small World", so we are pretty sure he also dreams of his favorite Disneyland attraction.

Last Wednesday night, Alex drew his version of Small World on his chalk board. This was the first time he had actually drawn a picture instead of simple circles and scribbles. He needed something to draw, and finally figured out what to put down in black and white. This picture has the Small World glockenspiel (he calls it tick tock), a few windmills (his favorite part of the interior) and more. For a four year olds rendition of Small World it is incredible!

So now you know about the picture, you also need to hear about what happened a few days later with my darling Disney boy. He decided he wanted to watch the 2007 Disneyland Vacation Planning DVD. This is incredibly well done this year, and our family really enjoys this video. After watching most of it, Alex got upset because he didn't see Small World. I was sure it was in there some where, and he knew he had missed it somehow. Daddy kept trying to find it for him, but it was nowhere to be found. Alex decided that Daddy didn't know what he was doing. He said "I will show you" and disappeared for a few minutes. He came back with his chalk board picture of Small World, and told daddy "this is Small World - this is what I want to see". Of course we started laughing. Our little boy had thought we actually forgot what Small World was (as if he would ever let that happen).

Yes, I have a Disney boy. His love of Disney and specifically Disneyland make our household fun and downright silly at times. We will continue to foster this love of his, and enjoy our Disneyland vacations as a family, because spending this magical time together is priceless for our Disney family.
