Los Angeles International Airport Infomation

Los Angeles International Airport is the largest and most well known airport near the Disney Resort in California.

Los Angeles International Airport, also referred to as LAX is located 15 miles southwest of Los Angeles. Approximately 27 miles from the Disneyland Resort in California the LAX airport is a close alternative, but keep in mind that traffic can be very heavy in Los Angeles.

This is a very busy airport, with many services available for the local and the international traveler. Families with young children will find many food choices here, including the following:

Burger King
McDonalds
Starbucks
California Pizza Kitchen

For adults, you will also find Home Turf Sports Bars, the Boudin Sourdough Bakery and even fine dining in two restaurants by Wolfgang Puck.

Because of the size of LAX, options for ground transportation are enormous.

Shuttle Buses, Vans and Motor coaches

Shuttle Buses, Vans and Motor coaches to the Disneyland Resort Area include but are not limited to the following:

Super Shuttle (2005, 30.00 per person round trip to the Disneyland Resort Hotels) 800-258-3826. Super Shuttle is one of the favorite shuttles used to the Disneyland Resort. Efficient, and well known, the only drawback could be that you may be the last stop in a van full of other people.

Airport Bus (2005, 28.00 for each adult, 20.00 for each child, round trip to the Disneyland Resort Hotels) 800-828-6699. This is the large motor coach you may have seen that is painted with Disney Characters, large, purple and very comfortable. This bus will take you to their location across from Howard Johnson Hotel where you will pay and transfer to smaller vans for your hotel delivery.

Green Van Airport Shuttle (must call for rates) 800-490-4090. The Green Van offers private van and Town Car service to the Disneyland Resort Area. While it may be more expensive than a standard shuttle, you can be assured you will go directly to your hotel. Give them a call for more information.

Prime Time Shuttle (must call for rates) 800-RED-VANS. Prime Time Shuttle has many options, including a shared van, private van, or private car.

Taxi Options

At LAX there is a taxi stand outside of the baggage claim. Here, you tell them where you are going, and get in line. Your rate is negotiated before you even see the interior of a taxicab. In 2005, taxi prices were approximately $67.00 each way. For larger families, where the per person shuttle cost gets very high, a taxi may be the way to go, and it will be direct to your Disneyland Resort Hotel.

Rental Cars

There are many rental car companies at the Los Angeles Airport. The two we prefer are National and Alamo because they have an extremely easy rental car return 1 block from Disneyland. A rental car can be cheaper than a shuttle, and with the ease of return, and the easy of pick up, including a child's play area inside the waiting area to pick up your car, we definitely recommend either of these companies. They are also very competitive in price, and if you are looking for the cheaper way to go, that is usually Alamo.

Pro's of LAX

Airport Traffic means selection - cars, shuttles, taxis and food
Many relaxing choices of things to do while at the airport
Quick Baggage Claim

Con's of LAX

Airport traffic means traffic, congestion in and around the airport
Size of this airport can be frightening for some.

Personal Review

We have used the Los Angeles airport many times. While it is large, and can be very scary late at night, during daytime hours it is heavily traveled and pretty easy to navigate. Many times though, in our case, it is less expensive to fly into Los Angeles. It is nice to have the choice.
