Candy Cane Inn Review 2007

The Candy Cane Inn is a small charming motel located at 1747 SouthHarbor, just 250 yards from Disneyland’s main gate.  When looking for a hotel in the Disneyland Resort area I came across the Candy Cane Inn.  After reading a ton of reviews on the Trip Advisor website, I decided to go ahead and give it a try.

We arrived at the Candy Cane Inn on Sunday May 20, 2007 at about 10AM.  The grounds of this hotel are beautiful with the mature trees, cobblestone driveway, beautiful landscaping, and a great pool area.  Since it was well before check in we hopped on their FREE shuttle bus and headed over to Downtown Disney.  During our 6 day stay at the Candy Cane Inn our shuttle was always on time.

We missed the shuttle coming back so we decided to walk back.  It was only about a 10 minute fast walk from the DisneylandPark.  I think we actually only used the shuttle to return to our room one time during our whole visit.  We checked in the hotel around 3PM, check in was fast and the staff was very nice. Upon check-in I requested they bring the pack-n-play to our room, as my 18 month old son needed a nap desperately.  The room was nice, I would say it was a little on the small side, but I didn’t mind because all we were doing was sleeping and getting ready there.  Once the pack-n-play was set up it was even smaller.  We barely had enough room to walk around it.  There were two queen size beds, a night stand in the middle, a little table with two chairs and a chest with the TV and a small safe.   In the bathroom area was a sink with a coffee pot and a small refrigerator.  Overall, the room was very clean.  The beds were actually pretty comfortable as far as hotel beds go.  The windows were covered with nice plantation shutters that blocked out the light.  The only thing I have to complain about was that our pack-n-play never arrived that afternoon, we ended up having to lay my son on the bed with pillows around him.  I stopped by the front desk on my way to dinner and requested the pack-n-play again; they were really nice and apologized, it was waiting for us in our room when we got back.

During our 6 day stay we ate breakfast at the hotel every morning.  For a family of four this saved us about $30 per day.  The hotel provided a continental breakfast free of charge every morning.  The breakfast included cold cereal, muffins, bread, bagels with cream cheese, Danishes, fresh fruit and coffee and juice.  They provided the breakfast in a small room near the pool, there were also tables next to the pool to eat at.  I have to admit by the 6th day I could no longer eat the same thing.  We ended up at Denny’s down the street.

Some of the amenities I used while staying at the Candy Cane Inn included the pool and spa, and the laundry area.  Our first day at Disneyland was freezing cold, we came back mid day so the kids could nap.  I ended up over at the spa thawing myself out.  It felt so nice!  The pool area was absolutely beautiful.  Most afternoons there didn’t seem to be too many people there, as they were all at Disneyland.  A couple of the nights I took my 4 year old over to swim and the pool and spa were both pretty crowded.    I also had to do an unplanned load of laundry.  Day 2 of our trip my 18 month old had a diaper blow out while at Disneyland, there was no way I was going to drive home with that mess.  The laundry room was equipped with 3 washers and 2 dryers.  It cost $1 to wash and another $1 to dry and I think the soap was also $1.  I was able to change my dollars in for quarters at the front desk.

The one and only complaint I have about this motel is the noise.  People just aren’t considerate when they are leaving or arriving back from Disneyland.  They walk past your room letting their kids scream and yell.  It wasn’t such an issue in the early mornings because my little guy gets up early, but at 9PM when he’s sleeping I was afraid someone was going to wake him up.

We left early on Saturday morning, check out was a breeze.  My husband literally just pulled the car up and I ran in and was back out in a flash. Overall, we had a wonderful stay at the Candy Cane Inn.  I would highly recommend this motel to anyone who wants to stay close to the Disneyland Resort, but it’s not in their budget to stay at a Disneyland Resort hotel.

The night after we got home I was trying to get my four year old to bed, when we couldn’t find his beloved polar bear stuffed animal Klondike.  This is the animal my son sleep with every night.  After searching our house with no Klondike to be found I called the Candy Cane Inn to see if we left him behind.  The next day the housekeeping manager called me back and said that they indeed found Klondike in our room.  We had Klondike back home within 2 days.  This is just another example of how the Candy Cane Inn has great customer service.
