Coral Reef Review from March 2008

The Coral Reef Restaurant allows you to dine with the fishes where one wall of the restaurant is part of the aquarium.

Among those you might see include:  Brown Shark, Stingray, Grouper, Tarpon, and the Green Sea Turtle.  We did actually see a very large green sea turtle and a scuba diver.  It was pretty cool.  We were seated on the second level with a great view of the aquarium.  The pictures of the aquarium did unfortunately turn out dark.  Our waiter was very good and he was able to take a good picture of our group with the aquarium in the background.  By resting the camera on the table behind us he was able to take a stable picture for us.

Three of us ordered the 8 0z Grilled New York Strip - served with potatoes au gratin and broccolini.  This was a lunch portion so the steak was only 8 oz which was small but it was very good. The potatoes au gratin was also very good again another small portion.

The Barbecued Salmon Sandwich - seared salmon filet served on a multigrain bread, with homemade barbecue sauce and pepper jack cheese this was also another good choice.

My daughter had the Grilled Chicken Breast from the child’s menu which was served with mashed potatoes and soup.  This was not very good.  The chicken was very dry because it was over cooked the mashed potatoes were not hot.

The soup was Lobster Bisque which was pretty good.  For dessert we had the The Chocolate Wave - served with brandied cherries and the Bailey's and Jack Daniel Mousse - topped with a ganache and chocolate cigar.  The Chocolate Wave was awesome.  It was chocolate cake served warm with a rich gooey liquid chocolate center with the brandied cherries over top.  I would get this one again.  The mousse was layers of mousse and ganache and was also very rich tasting.  I prefer the chocolate wave over the mousse.

The kids had the build your own sundae which of course they loved.  Overall this restaurant was pretty good I would recommend trying this restaurant at least once.  The atmosphere of the aquarium is unique.
