Disney's Princess Breakfast Review at Plaza Inn (2005)

Disney's Princess Breakfast at the Plaza Inn runs daily until 11:00 am. The price in 2005 is $21.99 per adult and $11.99 per child.

The Princess Breakfast is a chance for you to see many Princesses without having to leave your seat. Unfortunately, the Princesses are in high demand, and some people don't remain seated. This is something you need to be aware of before going to the Plaza Inn for this character meal. In fact, it has gotten so bad that the Cast Members now give each person a speech about how character meals work before you even pay.

Character meals are simple. You eat your meal and the character's come to you. Under no circumstances do you get up and try to find these characters. If you are not satisfied with the amount of characters that come to your table, then please see a Cast Member to let them know.

The table layout is not very suited for character visits… especially outside. Ariel's Grotto the tables are set up in nice strait lines 3 across. At Goofy's Kitchen there are small numbers of tables sectioned off from each other by half-walls. At the Plaza Inn the outside seating consists of one big area with a lot of tables randomly scattered about. This one big section makes it hard for characters to consistently move from table to table and encourages children from anywhere in the section to come up to the characters.

The Princess Breakfast is just like the other character meals but here you will see only the much sought after Princesses and sometimes their Prince. Now, you may even see non Princess ladies such as Jane from Tarzan or Mary Poppins with Bert.

Usually at the Plaza Inn they will tell you that you could see anywhere between 2 and 4 Princesses. This is because they usually have about 6 there at one time. The Plaza Inn is very large, and when busy, all of them simply can't get to each table.

The food at the Plaza Inn Princess Breakfast is buffet style, very similar to how their evening meal works. Certain items are offered, and you take your plate to the counter to tell them which items you prefer. You will usually have someone making omelet's to order, a section where you can pick up items from a traditional cooked breakfast, such as bacon, sausage, eggs, potatoes/hash browns, pancakes or waffles, and even biscuits and gravy. In the center area you will find muffins, breakfast type desserts, and other items that don't need to be kept warm. Cereal and milk is a great option for young children.

The food for this breakfast is wonderful. The food is hot, and cooked to perfection. Even when the restaurant is full, the lines for food don't seem that long. The Plaza Inn is one of those restaurants that can be recommended for both breakfast and dinner. People have come to expect good food here, because for years it has been. Changing the character meal in the morning did not affect the quality of the food.

The Plaza Inn is also a very convenient character meal. Located inside Disneyland, it is easy to enjoy the attractions up until your priority seating reservation. While Goofy's Kitchen is a long walk, it is also considerably more expensive than the Plaza Inn.

During our 2005 June trip we only saw a few Princess's and this character meal rated lower then Goofy's Kitchen and Ariel's Grotto. It is hard for us to recommend this character meal but to be fair we only had the one meal there and although it was less then optimal that does not mean that everyone will have the same experiences that we had. We will have to give it another try to see if we just caught them on a bad day.

Because the Princesses are in such high demand, Priority Seating is usually a must. You can make these reservations by calling 714-781-DINE up to 45 days in advance.

Princess Breakfast at the Plaza Inn in Disneyland, off Main Street

This was a buffet style breakfast but with not nearly the selection offered at Goofy's Kitchen. They did have the made to order omelets & the standard breakfast faire as well as pastries & fruit.

We found this was the best place to find the most characters, but harder for them to get to tables because they were being followed & hounded by guests who refused to wait at their tables.

The staff here was friendly & quite entertaining at times.

Out of the 3 character meals, I would rate the food here #3 (I didn't feel there was a very big selection)

July 2005 Update

Are the Princesses moving? The most recent Disney Rumor is that the Princess Breakfast will no longer be at Plaza Inn. We do not tend to post rumors on this site so we called Disney Dining myself to get the scoop.

In mid August you can expect the Princess Breakfast to move from the Plaza Inn in Disneyland to Ariel's Grotto in California Adventure. This is a great move for the Princesses who will now have tables set in actual rows which makes it easy for them to visit each table. The Gazebo at Ariel's Grotto will be a great place for special pictures to take place if they set it up that way.

Don't fret about Captain Mickey because according to the nice people at Disney Dining they are just moving as well; and will probably be relocated to the Plaza Inn.

After the 50th Anniversary Celebrations this weekend, more answers should be forthcoming, and we will update as soon as we find out more details. Until then be assured that neither Character Meal is going away at this time.

2006 Update

If you are interested in dining with the Princesses, well, you still have that option. The Princesses have been moved to Ariel's Grotto in Disney's California Adventure.

Because of this, there is no longer a Princess Breakfast, but they do serve both lunch and dinner with the Princesses.

At Ariel's Grotto you will find the tables set up much better than they were at Plaza Inn. The Princesses have a much easier time navigating the tables, and easily make it to everyone in the restaurant in a timely manner.

From a mother who just got back from Disneyland with her 4-year-old daughter, she reported that this was a fantastic setting for a Princess meal. Each Princess spent time at their table for pictures and to sign autographs before moving on.

Also, unlike the Captain Mickey meal, there is no dancing in the gazebo for the Princess meals.
