Garden Grill Dinner Review March 2008

The Garden Grill - Epcot (The Land)

This is a family style meal with characters.  The characters are Mickey, Pluto, Chip and Dale.

This is a revolving restaurant it slowly revolves so you are able to see different views of the land area so it is a nice feature.  We arrived at the restaurant about 15 minutes before our scheduled reservation and we were seated at the exact time of our reservation. The food was excellent.

This was our favorite restaurant from our trip.  We were able to meet and take pictures with all of the characters.  The kids loved all of the characters and they were able to get autographs also. Our waiter was very good and humorous.  He even offered to take a group picture of us with Mickey.  In our party we had 4 adults (12 year old considered an adult with the dining plan) and one child (9) on the child’s dining plan.  Even though with the dining plan they have special meals for children our waiter let our daughter eat our same food since on the child’s plan she would be eating all fast food type items for the rest of the trip.  I thought that was very nice of our waiter to ask which meal she would prefer to eat and let her eat the adult option meal with us.

We were first served a salad with biscuit and rolls which were served warm and were very good. For the main entree we had Fried Catfish, Flank Steak with Mushroom Cabernet au Jus sauce and Rotisserie Chicken.  For sides we had Home-style Potato Casserole and Green Beans.  The Flank Steak was excellent.  It was marinated which gave it great flavor and also made it really tender.  We all loved it and asked for seconds.  The Rotisserie Chicken was also very good. The Fried Catfish we did not care for.  It was fried very crispy and the breading had a spicy taste.  The Home-style Potato Casserole we all loved and also asked for seconds.

For dessert we had a Berry Puff Pastry and the kids had a cupcake that they were able to frost and decorate with candy toppings.  The Berry Puff Pastry had a vanilla custard filling and strawberries on top.  This was an excellent dessert.  If I was not so full from the second helpings of the steak and potatoes I would have definitely had more of this awesome dessert.  Our waiter could tell that we loved the steak and potato casserole so he gave us the recipes.  I was thrilled to have these recipes and plan on recreating this menu at home.  I asked but they do not have the recipe for the berry puff pastry so I want to find a similar recipe online to make this dessert at home.

I highly recommend this restaurant.  The food is excellent the characters are also a big plus.  I will note that this meal will take about 1 1/2 hours but it is worth it for the good food and for meeting the characters.  I know we are planning on eating at the Garden Grill again on our next trip back to WDW.  I would also recommend the dining plan because we definitely saved money on this meal by having it.
