Grizzly River Run is a wild river raft that will take you over Grizzly peak. Each raft will hold eight rafters to enjoy this sometimes soaking experience together. Once you make it through the well-themed queue and hit the loading area you will be sent to a specific raft. Be careful here, as this is a moving floor such as the moving walkways you see in airports.
Once you enter your raft and are safely buckled in, you will be sent on your way. The ride will begin slowly as you float around the loading platform, and soon you will begin your climb to the summit of Grizzly Peak. Once here, be sure to listen for the loud sounds of a Grizzly growling as you enter the tunnel.
This attraction is themed toward a mountain river rafting expedition, and you will find various scenes depicted on the river banks during your ride. There is ample opportunity to get wet even before you get to the final hill. As your raft twists and turns it will take dips that encourage water to flood in, soaking those in its path.
While going down the big 22 foot drop is not scary in itself, there is always a sense of nervousness simply because you have no idea how wet you will actual get as you sail down this hill.
After hitting the bottom of the hill don't get to comfortable though because you will find geysers in your path back to the loading dock. These geysers are set for summer and winter. In the summer, they are higher, raising the soaking possibilities. During the winter this attraction is set to have little or no geyser activity, enabling you to stay drier and still enjoy the attraction in colder temperatures.
Because of the soaking possibilities you will find free lockers to the left of the queue entrance where you can store items that simply can't get wet. We decided to take advantage of the lockers on this trip, and they are very simple to use. You can select English or Spanish and use the push button screen to get your locker. The locker chosen for you will be flashing, and you simply open it and put your items inside. After you get off the ride, you take your locker retrieval number back and punch it in to open your locker.
Grizzly River Run is a favorite attraction for us, especially on a very hot day. We love the single rider feature and combine that with taking our child to Redwood Creek Challenge Trail to play as we enjoy the attraction. Our next trip, he will be tall enough, and we will finally be able to enjoy this ride as a family.
