Holiday Time at Disneyland DVD Review

Holiday Time at Disneyland is a fan created DVD from the 2005 Holiday Season at Disneyland. Because of this you will see something in this video that only pertained to last year because of the 50th celebration. This is the Disneyland Christmas Tree decked out in gold for the 50th celebration. Instead of the regular tree topper there is the Golden Mickey 50th icon decoration.

This video is very well done and includes sounds from Disneyland instead of a voiceover from the cameraman or film editor. You will hear people talking, the music playing in Disneyland, and other sounds that you would hear as if you were actually walking through Disneyland yourself during the holidays.

Holiday Time At Disneyland is broken into four sections on this DVD and each section must be individually selected for viewing. The video gives you two Holiday rides, a great seat for the holiday parade, and a walk around Disneyland during the Christmas season. While sitting at the main menu you will hear 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas' playing in the background. The four sections in this video are detailed below.

Haunted Mansion Holiday is the default selection for this DVD. If you select Haunted Mansion Holiday another screen will be brought up. This will play the ride music until you hit enter. Once you hit enter you will begin your ride through Haunted Mansion Holiday; which is the Haunted Mansion with an overlay from Tim Burton's 'Nightmare Before Christmas' movie. Jack Skellington, also known as Sandy Claws has taken over the Haunted Mansion for a special holiday treat. This combination of standard Haunted Mansion and the addition of 'Nightmare Before Christmas' characters changes the ride completely for a few months each year. This video will take you through the complete ride beginning at the time you enter the front doors of the Haunted Mansion, and ending when you leave the building at the end of the ride. If you love this version of the ride then you will love this video. If you have never seen the holiday makeover of Haunted Mansion, this will be a great introduction to the ride you will see during the Holiday period. Haunted Mansion Holiday begins in early October and runs through early January each year.

'It's A Small World' Holiday is the other ride featured on the Holiday Time at Disneyland DVD. If you make this selection, you will hear 'March of the Toys' until you select 'set sail'. Once you make that selection you will see the façade of 'it's a small world' lit up in all of its holiday glory. This portion of the video will take you from the entrance through the end of this ride. The holiday overlay for 'it's a small world' usually begins in mid November and runs through early January. This is one of the most popular rides at Disneyland during the holiday season because of all the changes. The holiday makeover turns this attraction into a totally different ride.

Christmas Fantasy Parade will play the parade music until you select 'step off'. At this point you will be in Disneyland on the parade route. Your view of this parade is from Town Square between the Main Street Train Station and the Mad Hatter facing the center of Town Square. The location is wonderful for this parade, allowing you to hear each individual float as it passes by your seat. The parade is filmed at night, and shows up beautifully in this video. Holiday Time at Disneyland definitely does a great job with this segment of the video. You will clearly see each character from the parade in this video. The Christmas Fantasy Parade usually runs from mid November through December.

Deck the Halls provides you with a walk around Disneyland during the Holiday Season; showing you all the extra magic you will find at Disneyland this time of year. You will hear the carolers singing 'Let it Snow' until you select the 'look around' button. Once you make that selection you will be on Main Street at the base of the Main Street Train Station stairs watching the Disneyland carolers singing 'Let it Snow'. The carolers are dressed up as old-time carolers on a cold winter day.

As daylight fades you will next have a great seat for the lighting of Disneyland's Christmas Tree. There will be a countdown and then the lighting where you will see the tree in all of its 50th Anniversary golden glory.

You will next see the well lit façade of 'It's A Small World Holiday. You screen will then go to a still photo of the Small World emblem as the cameraman misses the beginning of the beautiful projections onto the façade of Small World. The picture quickly goes back to It's A Small World missing just the first few seconds. You will continue to see the whole show on the outside of 'It's A Small World'.

After the projections on Small World are done you can hear the announcement that the fireworks are cancelled (that happened frequently in December of 2005) but you will then hear the sounds of 'White Christmas' and will be able to hear the snow machines dispensing 'snow' over Disneyland. You don't see the snow; you instead see more projections on 'It's A Small World' that are the standard projections after the fireworks.

Next you will be transported to New Orleans Square where you will have a great view of all of the different lights on the shops and eateries. The icicle lights look beautiful here.

Sleeping Beauty Castle is brightly lit for the holidays and this DVD captures an incredible shot of that beauty. You will then turn around for a full view of Main Street as the camera goes up Main Street for a showing of the Christmas Tree, and all the different lights on each store.

Once this concludes, this section of the DVD ends with a Happy Holidays wish for the viewer.

Holiday Time at Disneyland is an incredible video of one of the most magical times of year at Disneyland. With the inclusion of the two holiday attractions it is a must see for those who love Disneyland during the holidays, and for those who have never had the opportunity to go during the holidays. This is your front row seat to some of the best and most loved things you can see at Disneyland during the holidays.
