House Call Doctors at the Disneyland Resort

There is a company called HouseCallPhysicians that will actually come to your hotel room.  This is very handy if you don't have access to a car or are too sick to travel.  Simply call the toll free number for HCP and you will have a Doctor in your room shortly.

This is actually a really simple process.  I had to use this service in June due to a severe ear infection that was causing me to throw up.  I didn't have a car and was spending a great deal of time in the hotel room, which is not how I usually go to Disneyland.  Normally I only sleep in the room.  Because we had no car there was no way I could drive anywhere and didn't feel like taking a taxi.  We made the decision to call the HouseCallPhysicians.

When you call them, you will give the reason for the call (what is wrong) and your hotel name, address and your room number.  They will tell you what the cost is for the visit.  In June 2011 it was $300 just to walk into your hotel room.  Medication is an extra charge.  While this may sound expensive it is important to know that if you were to go to an emergency room or urgent care facility it would be more expensive.  The Doctor that visits you will give you the paperwork to submit for your own insurance.  They will tell you that your insurance company will probably pay around 75% of this bill.  You must have a credit card or the exact cash to pay your bill.

Next you will be told that you will hear from a Doctor within an hour.  Minutes after hanging up the Doctor called to say she would be there within an hour.  There are three Doctors with this group.  Two men, and a female Doctor to visit the female visitors.  This was really nice because with a female Doctor I didn't have to worry about having a strange man in the hotel room, so my husband and son were able to stay at Disneyland.

The Doctor was true to her word, and was in my room 45 minutes after I called.  Upon her inspection she found out that I had perforated my ear drum and had a nasty inner ear infection.  She took my temperature and blood pressure as well.

I had three medications dispensed by this Doctor and she had them all with her.  The Doctors don't carry popular allergen medications like Penicillin or Sulfa drugs.  I was given a shot of Phenergan so I could stop throwing up, medication for the infection, and additional medication for nausea.  My total cost was $520, and it was the best money ever spent.  I would have kept getting sicker if I had not called the doctor, but she made it possible to enjoy the rest of our trip.  Each day after that I felt better.

So remember, if you need a Doctor at Disneyland you can stop by the First Aid clinic for the card for HouseCallPhysicians.  The local phone number is 1-800-928-1593 or 1-800-DOCS-911.  I definitely recommend this physician group.
