History of Pocahontas

In 1995 Disney turned the story of Pocahontas into its newest film. Pocahontas was very loosely based on a true-life figure; well known in both United States and Native American History. Disney turned Pocahontas into a Princess now loved by many.

Pocahontas, whose name means Little Mischief, is a member of the Powhatan tribe. English settlers are invading Powhatan land and Pocahontas sees change coming.

This is one Disney movie that did not garner much attention from children because of the more adult themes.

Pocahontas has since gained cult status; and is a very well known and much loved movie now. It is also one Disney movie that did not have a happily ever after ending. Pocahontas does not end up with a Prince unlike most of the Disney Princesses.

Pocahontas nevertheless is still a widely known character as a Disney Princess. Her home is in Frontierland at Disneyland Park.

Like other recent Disney characters two different people provided the voice for Pocahontas. Irene Bedard was her speaking voice and Judy Kuhn the singing voice for Pocahontas.
