Bringing Disney Home DVD Review

Bringing Disneyland Home is a fan created DVD that was primarily filmed in the early 1990's. There are also a few points that were added very recently and these will be noted as they come up in the video. This is a walk through of Disneyland which also will take the watcher through several of the attractions for a partial ride-through.

Each section of the video contains the ambient sounds of the area, and has no speaking from the camera operator at all during the video. Each segment is well filmed with no shaking, but the switches from one scene to the next can be rather quick. Of course since this video is only a few minutes longer than an hour in length and that includes the Photo Gallery section, it takes you through Disneyland in just under an hour. Obviously not everything can be seen in that time, but this video does a good job of presenting things you may see while at Disneyland.

Bringing Disneyland Home is broken up into 11 sections. If you start at the top then the video will continue playing until you reach the Grand Canyon Diorama. At this point you will need to individually select the final two options.

What you will see in this video is broken out by sections created by the video itself.

Welcome To Disneyland

Welcome to Disneyland starts Bringing Disneyland Home as the cameraman walks through the esplanade to the Disneyland Gates. Here you will see the Bricks in the esplanade that people have been able to purchase and have personalized. This scene obviously wasn't filmed in the early '90's but is more than likely done within the last few years. After entering the gates at Disneyland, the video pans the entryway, including the floral Mickey, the back of Main Street Station, and takes a close-up of the plaque above the left tunnel before entering Town Square.

Main Street USA

Main Street USA is the next section, and as you make the transition to Main Street you hear the most famous part of Walt Disney's opening day speech, "Welcome to Disneyland, Welcome". The video will next take you into Main Street Station for a look at all of the Disney memorabilia hiding there. While in the Main Street Section of Bringing Disneyland Home you will also see various Main Street Buildings, a duck in the grass, the view of Sleeping Beauty Castle from a spot near Town Square, horse-drawn carriages and many other ride vehicles that transport you between Town Square and the hub. This video will take you into Disneyana where you will see art hanging on the walls for sale, and a very large Mickey Mouse statue. It also takes you into Candy Palace where you see candy being made. This video also shows many of the famous red carts, Plaza Inn, and of course the Hub. There is a close-up of the Partners Statue and pictures of the smaller statues in the hub, including Minnie Mouse, Dumbo, Goofy, Pluto, Chip and Dale, and Pinocchio. There are also many views of Sleeping Beauty Castle from different angles.

Adventureland

Next you will enter Adventureland. Here Bringing Disneyland Home will take you in to see a bit of the show in Aladdin's Oasis, and you will see part of a ride through the Jungle Cruise. The Indiana Jones outdoor area is covered, as is the queue, but you will not see the ride itself. Tarzan's Tree House is next, where you not only get a partial walk through but you also get to see the view from the top of the Sailing Ship Columbia, and Big Thunder Mountain.

New Orleans Square

When you leave Adventureland the video immediately takes you into New Orleans Square with the voice of the Ghost Host from Haunted Mansion welcoming you to New Orleans Square. Here you will enjoy the Pirates of the Caribbean queue, and a good portion of the ride itself, including the 'wench' auction, which is no longer part of the redesigned ride. There is a lot of time spent walking around in this area showing three different groups of singers. One group sings as they throw beads to the crowd. The other two are bands with instruments singing and playing Jazz. Time is also spent at the New Orleans Square Train Station and includes the arrival of a train. While the façade of Haunted Mansion is shown the ride itself is not filmed.

Frontierland

The next logical land from this point would be Critter Country, but instead Bringing Disneyland Home takes you to Frontierland. The voice heard introducing Frontierland is the same spiel you will hear before your train takes off on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. The video shows rafts that go to Tom Sawyer Island, and a full ride on the Mark Twain showing all the sites from the Mark Twain that you will see of Tom Sawyer Island… including the Indian Village. Time is also spent at the Golden Horseshoe Stage. There are shows outside this building as well as inside; and you see a few seconds of an outdoor show before going inside for a snippet of the Billy Hill and the Hillbillies show. More time is spent on the Golden Horseshoe Variety Show where you will see most of one full skit.

Tomorrowland

After Frontierland you will cross the Hub and enter Tomorrowland. You will get a good look at the Astro Orbitor before moving on to Star Tours. This portion of the video will take you completely through the queue and then you will see most of the ride itself. Next you enter 'The American Space Experience' for a walk through. This ride is no longer at Disneyland but is nice to see on video. Space Mountain's entrance and loading area are shown in the video; but due to the type of attraction there is no video from inside the ride. Another walk through is done of Innoventions for a peek at the types of things you will see there. There is also a peek at the Club Buzz sign, but Club Buzz is currently being removed from Disneyland; so it will not be there on your next trip. One of the attractions children like best is Autopia and here you will see a portion of the ride. There is also a look at the old submarine attraction which also is no longer at Disneyland.

Fantasyland

Fantasyland is next up on Bringing Disneyland Home. The first shot you will see here is a plaque which identifies the location of the 40th Anniversary Time Capsule. This section of the video happens to be one of the longest and covers quite a bit of the land. There is time spent at Snow White's Grotto looking at the Dwarfs and Snow White. You will also see a portion of the Sword in the Stone Ceremony with Merlin. The facades of many attractions are shown. You will also get a good luck at Dumbo in action, and the Teacups; but neither is ridden in the video. Here you will actually enjoy the full Alice in Wonderland attraction, a portion of Storybook Land Canal Boats and a portion of 'it's a small world'. There is also time spent at the Matterhorn showing the ride but no ride through is done. You will get a good luck at King Triton in Ariel's Grotto before leaving Fantasyland for the next adventure.

ToonTown

Not much time is spent in ToonTown and no houses or rides are completed here. You will get a good look though at the facades of buildings, the Gadget's Go Coaster, Donald's Boat, and the Jolly Trolley. This is basically a general walk through ToonTown to introduce you to the area.

Critter Country

Amazingly, Critter Country follows ToonTown. This section of Bringing Disneyland Home shows still photos of Splash Mountain including ride photo's but there is no video ride through. There are shots of Pooh in the meet and greet area as well as many shots of the surrounding décor themed to Winnie the Pooh. The attraction you will spend time on is the Country Bears, which of course are no longer at Disneyland. Following the Country Bears you see still shots of fireworks and hear the closing announcement. Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy then sing a famous song from Mickey Mouse Club much to Donald's disdain. After this is done you will be taken back to the main menu.

Grand Canyon Diorama

Grand Canyon Diorama must be individually selected from the main menu of Bringing Disneyland Home. For this portion of the video, the cameraman is sitting on the Disneyland Railroad as it enters the Grand Canyon Diorama between Tomorrowland and Main Street Stations. For this it feels as if it is actually you sitting on the train, as everything heard on the train comes through easily onto the video.

Photo Gallery

The Photo Gallery must also be selected individually and it is well worth watching. This montage of photo's is complete with background music and goes through each section of Disneyland. Easily noticed in the beginning is a picture of the Golden Gate Bridge at Disney's California Adventure. In this montage you will see a variety of pictures from inside Disneyland.

Attractions you will ride during the video, either in full or just a portion:

Disneyland Train
Jungle Cruise
Aladdin's Oasis
Pirates of the Caribbean
Star Tours
Autopia
The American Space Experience
Innoventions
Sword in the Stone
Alice in Wonderland
'it's a small world'
Storybook Land Canal Boats
Country Bears
Disneyland Railroad

While Bringing Disneyland Home is not fully detailed and doesn't cover every single part of Disneyland; what they have done is very effective. This is an especially great video to help prepare a young child for Disneyland and to build excitement for the trip.

It is also nice to have after a trip to Disneyland… it helps bring back pleasant memories of your time spent there.
