The Candy Cane in is a motel approximately 1 ½ blocks from the entrance to Disneyland. The first things you will notice at this motel is the cobblestone drive and the large fountain in front of the lobby.
The lobby of the Candy Cane Inn is rather small with just a check-in desk and a shelving area. There is also a gift shop inside the lobby and all purchases are made at the front desk. The motel itself is only two floors, with no elevator. Ice and cola machines are available.
Once you are checked-in and given a room key you will meet a Candy Cane Inn employee at the door to your room. He will be fitting other keys to your lock and will give them to you when he is done.
The standard room at the Candy Cane Inn comes equipped with two queen beds, a television that doesn’t have ESPN, a refrigerator and a table and two chairs. The bathroom is rather large and has a tub/shower along with a toilet. Outside the bathroom you will find the vanity and a clothing rack with hangers. There is no closet here, but plenty of room for suitcases. Drawers are minimal here, so plan on living pretty much out of your suitcase during your stay. The room was nicely appointed with very soft bed coverings, and excess of pillows that will make all pillow lovers happy, and a heating/cooling unit that you control. The plantation shutters are a nice change to heavy draperies and are easy to open and close. Each room also has wireless internet, a coffee maker, hair dryer and even an iron and ironing board for your use.
This motel is one of a very few that offers a Disneyland Shuttle. This is a full-sized bus that leaves the hotel every 30 minutes on the half-hour, and picks up at Disneyland every 30 minutes on the 15 and 45’s. There is not a shuttle at 8pm or 8:15pm because of breaks for the driver. This shuttle is on time and very easy to use. While the Candy Cane is within easy walking distance, the shuttle is a wonderful feature for worn out feet.
For the breakfast lovers in your family, the Candy Cane Inn has a daily continental breakfast that includes toast, bagels, donuts, muffins, fruit and cereal. You can enjoy your breakfast by the pool, or take it back to your room.
If you like to eat outside of the parks you will find several easy choices right across the street. There is a wonderful Mexican restaurant that even the locals love, a donut shop, ice cream shop, Subway and Pizza restaurant where you can get pizza by the slice. Right next door you will find the ABC which has the feel of a large market store. Here you will find many souvenir options as well as some foods, drinks and medications. If the ABC doesn’t have what you are looking for, right next to that is a 7-11.
When it is time to leave the beauty of the Candy Cane Inn and return to real life, the front desk will happily print your boarding passes for you. They can also schedule your transportation to the airport, be it a shuttle, taxi, or Town Car.
We stayed at the Candy Cane Inn for four nights starting on December 20th, 2008. We arrived there at 10:30 in the morning and were pleasantly surprised to be given our room immediately. We went to the room, dropped off our luggage and got what we needed for Disneyland. Before hopping the shuttle though we decided to eat across the street. This was our first experience at the very busy Mexican restaurant. Here you will find huge servings, especially if you order a combo platter. During our stay we enjoyed all three restaurants, and even the donut shop.
I was vastly impressed by the look of the motel. It was gardenlike and so serene. We chose a room on the bottom floor, and never once had an issue with noise. At one point during our stay I had checked ABC and 7-11 for a children’s decongestant. I was disappointed that neither store carried children’s medicine. Imagine our surprise on our last day to find the medicine we needed at the Candy Cane Inn lobby store!
The staff here was wonderful. They were very accommodating and helpful, no matter what the need. We found the shuttle to be a wonderful option for transport between Disneyland and the motel. The walk itself is approximately 8 minutes, so that is easy to do as well.
As a person who loves pillows, I was very pleased to see the plethora of pillows on the beds. The beds themselves were very comfortable – not too hard or too soft.
Would we stay here again? Oh yes – I loved this motel and everything about it.
